How to take good care of your hands?

Tips

Gamila Secret Team

The hands are one of the most important parts of our body. We use them to feel the world around us, explore, work, take care of our loved ones and much more. But all this exposes them to direct harmful external irritants such as cold, heat, frequent hand washing, pollution and dirt. These can all weaken skin’s natural barrier and cause our hands to dry out.

The hands have a different skin structure from other parts of our body. Actually, the palms of our hands are rich in fatty and connective tissue and have a high density of sweat glands but very few sebaceous glands. The top of the hand is low in fatty tissue, the skin is thin and sensitive and, like the back of the hand is low on sebaceous glands.

These Sebaceous glands are responsible for the production of sebum that helps keep the hands hydrated. So, our hands are less capable to bind moisture in and are more likely to dry out then other parts of our body.

Being such a sensitive part, it is important to take good care of our hands and wash them regularly, protect them from extreme weather conditions, drink a lot of water and, of course, apply hand cream.

But how many times a day should you apply hand cream and moisturise your hands?

In order to maintain hydration and prevent premature aging, you should apply hand cream whenever your hands feel dry. This helps enhance skin elasticity and keep moisture levels, as well as protect against chipping and cracking.

Since the the Covid Pandemic began, we are washing our hands multiple times a day and using hand sanitisers with high levels of alcohol that are more aggressive to the skin. This can cause dehydration, so it is important to apply hand cream every time you wash your hands.

Keep your hand cream in view and you will not forget it!
